A Prayer For Days Like These
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
It's been a tough, heartbreaking, confusing time and still nothing is happening and you are not sure why. You know you heard from God, that you are on the right track. Yet things are not going the way they should. Delays, setbacks, attacks, both physical and financial, are giving you sleepless nights. And when you cry out to God, silence answers you. You are just about to quit, to give up. Your hopes are dashed. What is going on? What have you done wrong? Have you heard wrong? Where is God?
Days like these happen more often than we like; days where it seems Heaven has shut its doors to you, when you watch your prayers bounce back off the ceiling, and you can feel your hope leaking out. That is when you need to pray A Prayer For Days Like These based on Philippians 4:6-7.
If this is where you find yourself today, wondering what's going on, then let us pray:
Dear Lord! I don't know what's going on, but I don't like it! At first, everything seemed to be going according to plan, excitement was high, hopes even higher. But months have passed and everything is still the same, and I am anxious about everything! God, what's happening?
I am reminded of Abraham and Sarah, though, in this moment of silent confusion. They were so excited about Your promise that they would finally have a son. But then You delayed; nothing happened for many years; Sarah wasn't pregnant and the dream was dying on the Vine. Lord, what happened? Why did You take so long? They thought maybe You had forgotten Your promise to them and so they decided to fast-track it by helping You get back on track through Hagar, Sarah's maid.
Abraham and Sarah soon found out that You do not need help in fulfilling Your plans for their lives. Lord, I am tempted to help You, too, especially when things become desperate, as they are now. But, Lord, I still see a glimmer of hope. I see You, calm, watching me; loving me. I may not understand the delays in the dream. But today I bring my petition to You, dear Lord. I know You hear me, that You have made a way already.
Thank You that this isn't the end. This is only the beginning of Better Things. There is a reason for all of this. I can't see it yet, but I know You will never abandon me on the road to glory.
May Your name be praised, and Your peace guard my heart and mind as I wait upon You, Lord. Thank You for making a way where there seems to be no way. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
