He First Loved Us
Vignettes
We love Him because He first loved us. I John 4:19
A short verse, only eight words yet so full of the love, goodness and care of God. God loved us first. We did not ‘Find God” and then loved Him. Rather God has loved us from before the beginning of time; from when we were sinners, before we met Christ. When we were without Jesus in our lives, God loved us. God has loved us from before we knew of Him or about Him; from before we became aware of how much we need Him. Therefore, because of all He has done, we love Him because He first loved us.
Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. I Peter 5:7
Here, too, God does not waste words. In eleven words, God sums up His love and care towards those who believe in the name of His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ with the words: For He cares for you. And God’s care for us has an added benefit: You can cast all of your cares on shoulders bigger and stronger than yours, and know that He is and will take good care of you.
Note well in these two verses that God is very succinct, clear, concise and extremely direct in what He is saying. He does not beat around the bush. That is because He is not a man prone to lying. We are to receive in our hearts His heart of love poured out upon us in these two verses as truth.
No matter what you have or will face in life, you can count on these verifiable facts:
1. God First Loved Us,
2. God Cares Deeply About Us, and
3. He Will Never Change His Mind about His Love Toward Us.
You can rest assured that God's love covers the multitude of your sins, which He forgives you when you ask. You can cast all of your cares on Him knowing that He cares for you. You may have hang-ups with God and not always feel love toward Him. You may get angry at God because He does not do what you have commanded Him or wanted Him to do. But know this, in spite of all your tantrums before the Throne, God still loves you and He still cares deeply for you.
You are
loved by God, and always will be, because He First Loved You.
And know this, too: He will love you
until the end.
